History
The original part of Brading Church was built in the 12th century. It was built from the wealth that came from the town being a profitable sea port. The sea is now over a mile away.

Brading Church has an unusual entrance that is open on three sides. It is only one of four like this in England.

It has undergone many changes over the centuries using many different types materials.

Acting as a nominated specialist subcontractor Magenta carried out: large stone replacement to asher, weatherings, windows etc; removal of cementacious mortar patches and pointing over whole tower including copings and associated lead; Grouting to large voids within the tower structure; stone conservation work to a number of stone windows and historic decorative features.

Stone conservation to windows, St Mary the Virgin, Brading, Isle of Wight.

Rope access to the top of the spire was needed to report on the condition of stonework and metal fixings. We were able to banker work on site as no two stones were the same which meant continuity of setting out, working and fixing of individual items.

Due to our specialists experience working with Shaftesbury greenstone and Chilmark stone which is geographically similar to Isle of Wight stone we were able to retain more of the original fabric than the scheme originally intended which resulted in a more pleasing effect.
